Near Water Concert Series: One Year Anniversary Show
Fueled by Monster Energy Drink, The Libertine and WKRU 106.7
The Meyer Theatre is celebrating the one year anniversary of its Near Water Concert Series fueled by Monster Energy Drink and WKRU by putting on a free show Thursday, May 23, 7pm. The first Near Water concert took place May 23, 2012 with Andrew Belle along with Eric Fink and Phil Roach of The Giving Tree Band. A year later the line-up includes PHOX, Hugh Bob and The Hustle, and Fort Frances. More information is available at www.facebook.com/nearwaterconcertseries.
PHOX is a seven piece outfit from Baraboo, Wisconsin. The band gained a heavy amount of exposure from its stop at this year’s SXSW. It was featured on NPR’s “All Songs Considered” and Paste Magazine while receiving a lot of positive press from Adam Duritz of The Counting Crows and the team over at Daytrotter! The band last played Near Water Feb. 26.
The May 23 show will also welcome back the Chicago-based three piece outfit Fort Frances who played the Nov. 7 Near Water show with Noah Gundersen. The band is on the verge of releasing an all new five track EP titled Harbour. Like PHOX, Fort Frances made an impression on Duritz and was also invited to play his Outlaw Roadshow SXSW Showcase.
The only first timer to the Near Water Concert Series is Milwaukee-based Hugh Bob and The Hustle. Featuring members from The Wildbirds, the band has received positive praise for its brand of American music. Matt Wild of A.V. Club Milwaukee called the band’s debut a “…warm, affectionate collection of straight-up AM country gold.”
